Lamotrigine and Omeprazole interaction
Omeprazole may increase serum levels the pharmacologic effects and of certain benzodiazepines including clonazepam which is an active ingredient of Lamictal, through hepatic enzyme inhibition. Patient should be monitored closely for increased sedation, breathing problems and drowsiness. Reduced benzodiazepine dosage may be indicated, especially in elderly. Benzodiazepines which are not metabolized through oxidation such as lorazepam, oxazepam and temazepam are not expected to interact with omeprazole and may be considered as safe alternatives.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Methotrexate?“
It has been found that concomitant use of PPIs such as omeprazole and methotrexate (at high dose) may elevate and prolong serum levels of methotrexate or its metabolite, possibly causing methotrexate toxicities. The proposed mechanism is omeprazole’s inhibition of the active tubular secretion of MTX and 7-hydroxymethotrexate through renal H+/K+ ATPase pumps. Another suggested mechanism is inhibition of the breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP)-mediated transport by methotrexate. When high-doses of methotrexate are needed, a temporary withdrawal of omeprazole may be considered in some patients.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Rifampin?“
Omeprazole oral and Rifampin oral Drug Interactions
Coadministration of omeprazole with potent inducers of CYP450 2C19 and/or 3A4 such as rifampin may significantly decrease the plasma concentrations of omeprazole, which is primarily metabolized by these isoenzyme. Thus, this combination should be avoided.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Plavix?“
Omeprazole and Plavix Drug Interactions
Patients have to avoid combination of Omeprazole delayed-release capsules with clopidogrel. Clopidogrel is a prodruga and inhibition of platelet aggregation by clopidogrel is entirely due to an active metabolite. Omeprazole may impair the metabolism of clopidogrel to its active metabolite due to CYP2C19 inhibition. It has been shown that concomitant use of clopidogrel with Omeprazole reduces the pharmacological activity of clopidogrel, even when used 12 hours apart. Alternative anti-platelet therapy should be considered if omeprazole is already used.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Levofloxacin?“
Levofloxacin (Levaquin) and omeprazole Drug Interactions
There is no known interaction between these two drugs. They can be taken together, but you alwaysneed to consult your healthcare provider first before taking these drugs on your own.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Lexapro?“
Lexapro and omeprazole Drug Interactions
Omeprazole oral may increase the level or effect of Lexapro (escitalopram) by altering drug metabolism through affecting hepatic enzyme CYP2C19 metabolism. Omeprazole is a potent CYP450 2C19 inhibitor. Study showed that administration of a single escitalopram 20 mg with omeprazole 30 mg once daily for 6 days resulted in increases concetrations of escitalopram in a range of approximately 10% and 50.
High plasma concetrations of Lexapro may increase the risk of serious side effects such as QT prolongation, leading to arrhythmias including torsade de pointes and sudden death, as well as serotonin syndrome, potentially fatal condition. Symptoms of the serotonin syndrome may include mental status changes such as irritability, confusion, altered consciousness, hallucination, and coma, autonomic dysfunction such as tachycardia, diaphoresis, hyperthermia, shivering, blood pressure lability, and mydriasis and neuromuscular abnormalities such as myoclonus, tremor, hyperreflexia, rigidity, and ataxia; and gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Lipitor?“
Lipitor and Prilosec Drug Interactions
These drugs should not be used together. Talk to your healthcare provider before using Lipitor together with omeprazole. Combining these drugs may increase atorvastatin’s blood levels and effects increasing the risk of side effects such as liver damage but also a rare and serious condition named rhabdomyolysis known to make a breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue. In some cases, rhabdomyolysis can cause kidney damage and even death. The proposed mechanism is competitive inhibition of intestinal P-glycoprotein that may result in reduced drug secretion into the intestinal lumen and increased drug bioavailability. Another, however minor mechanism is competitive inhibition of CYP450 3A4 metabolism. You may need a dose adjustment or your doctor may prescribe alternative medications that do not interact. Call your doctor if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness during treatment with atorvastatin especially if these symptoms are accompanied with fever or dark colored urine.
You should also seek medical attention if you develop chills, fever, skin rash, itching, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, loss of appetite, dark colored urine, and/or yellowing of the skin or eyes, as these may be signs and symptoms of liver damage.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Lisinopril?”
Is it ok to take lisinopril and omeprazole same time?
Recent studies found that in in vitro and in vivo animal models, PPIs including omperazole may cause the constriction of blood vessels, which if they are taking regularly may result to a variety of cardiovascular problems such as hypertension and a weakened heart. Patients who have cardiovascular diseases and who are on lisinopril theapy should talk with their doctors before using omeprazole, especially if they need this medicine for a long-term therapy.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Keppra?“
Keppra and omeprazole Drug Interactions
Since there are no direct interactions between omeprazole and Keppra they can be taken together. Always consult with your health care provider before you take them on your own.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Klonopin?“
Clonazepam and Zegerid Drug Interactions
Omeprazole may increase serum levels the pharmacologic effects and of certain benzodiazepines including clonazepam via hepatic enzyme inhibition. Patient should be monitored for increased sedation, breathing problems and drowsiness. Reduced benzodiazepine dosage may be indicated, especially in the elderly. Benzodiazepines which are not metabolized through oxidation such as lorazepam, oxazepam and temazepam are not expected to interact with omeprazole and may be considered as safe alternatives.
“Can I take Omeprazole with Nelfinavir?“
